@Andy: That was the surprising bit. It was at the bottom of the “hill”. To be honest it was one of those short steep inclines that would probably be replaced by steps if it wouldn’t create accessibility issues but I seriously doubt a wheelchair could make it. In reality, it probably can’t be cycled safely for a shared pathway…but it might have given me an idea for a new annual event! :c)

We have one in our local town as well: It’s on a road junction so I can see the logic, sort of, but to obey puts you at more risk than ignoring it:
