There really should have been a label saying “open other end”…
Hmmmm. Wouldn’t happen to be that NOS Dunlop 26″ x 1 3/8″ 40-hole westwood rim I’ve been awaiting, would it? A cogent reminder to never order anything vaguely scandalous…

Ooh, excellent. That’s just the same as the Runwell, but I’m still hoping to resurrect the original rear wheel. Where’d you find it? They’re probably a dime a dozen over there…*sigh*… (well, not a dime).

Aha…this was an eBay bargain at only £3 and a bit more than that for delivery. I could scarcely believe it myself. The chrome isn’t perfect but it’ll suffice. A few days later, I restrained myself from buying a pair of vintage Raleigh stainless steel Endrick rims for £17 or so…
There seems to be a few dealers on UK eBay breaking old bikes for spares for the restorers’ or collectors’ market. I try not to support them because I reckon that if the components are still good, the bicycle was probably also perfectly good.
Sad that a bicycle can be worth more as parts than as a working rider!
However, there also seem to be a supply of new parts coming in from China…
